After abandoning the acquisition of Warner, Netflix announced the acquisition of Ben Affleck's AI film and television technology company Interpositive.
IT Home March 6 news: Tech media 9to5Mac published a blog post yesterday (March 5). The report said that after Netflix abandoned its plan to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, it instead moved on to acquire InterPositive, an AI film technology company founded by Hollywood actor Ben Affleck.
After completing this acquisition, InterPositive’s entire team will be fully integrated into Netflix, and Affleck himself will also serve as a senior adviser to Netflix.
IT Home cited information from the blog post, saying that InterPositive’s core business is AI-powered tools developed specifically for filmmakers. Unlike apps such as Sora that can generate short videos directly from simple text prompts, the company’s technology is not intended to generate films directly. Instead, its AI tools mainly focus on the production and post-production stages of filmmaking, aiming to simplify the tedious workflow for relevant creators and improve overall production efficiency.
In an official statement, Netflix emphasized that InterPositive is committed to protecting and expanding creative freedom through emerging technologies, which aligns closely with Netflix’s long-standing idea that “innovation should serve storytellers and the creative process.”
Although the specific financial terms of this acquisition have not been disclosed, this event is sure to trigger far-reaching ripple effects across the entire film and television industry. The media believes that AI’s applications in film and television production are still in the early stages, and Netflix’s move fully demonstrates its determination to seize the front line of innovation.
