General Motors said Wednesday that it plans to invest $600 million in South Korea to upgrade production facilities and strengthen its position as a global hub for the company’s compact SUVs.

In a press release, General Motors said the investment in GM Korea includes the $300 million investment the company announced in December last year, as well as an additional $300 million, reflecting the company’s confidence in GM Korea’s improving performance and growing competitiveness.
