The Strait of Hormuz oil tanker transportation has come to a halt

Local time on February 28, according to real-time data from the international tanker traffic monitoring system, oil tankers currently operating in waters around the Strait of Hormuz have generally seen their sailing speeds fall to zero, indicating that shipping in the region has come to a standstill. At the same time, multiple European governments have issued emergency directives to their flagged tankers that are en route, ordering that passage through the Strait of Hormuz must be strictly prohibited in order to avoid safety risks arising from the current escalation of the situation.
