Qingming Festival holiday consumption increased across the board

Many places implemented a spring holiday with consecutive days, injecting momentum into springtime consumption

BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) — On April 6, a reporter learned from the Ministry of Commerce that during the Qingming Festival holiday, many places implemented a spring holiday with consecutive days; consumer demand was unleashed, injecting vitality into the spring consumption market.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, during the Qingming Festival holiday, the average daily sales of nationally designated retail and catering enterprises increased by 2.4% year over year. For the 78 pedestrian streets (commercial districts) monitored by the Ministry of Commerce, the foot traffic and revenue increased by 6.0% and 6.7% year over year, respectively.

In terms of goods consumption, as of April 5, under the 2026 program for trading in old cars for new ones, a total of 1.526 million subsidy applications were received, driving new car sales revenue of 246.8 billion yuan. For the trade-in of home appliances for new ones and for the sale of digital and smart “upgrade-to-new” products, 62.845 million units were sold, driving sales revenue of 215.97 billion yuan. Business data from the Ministry of Commerce shows that during the Qingming Festival holiday, sales revenue from key platforms for smart glasses, smart watches and bands, and smart blood glucose meters increased by 3.2 times, 12.3%, and 19.6%, respectively, year over year.

In terms of services consumption, according to business data from the Ministry of Commerce, during the Qingming Festival holiday, the sales revenue of key-monitored catering enterprises increased by 3.9% year over year. For key platforms, hotel lodging consumption increased by 2.6% year over year, the number of trips made across cities increased by 15.1% year over year, theme park consumption increased by 11.7% year over year, parent-child study and exploration program orders doubled, and car rental order volume increased by about 40% year over year.
