According to a Lloyds List Intelligence report, a French container ship is now sailing eastward past the Strait of Hormuz via a route approved by the authorities in Tehran, after being stuck in the Persian Gulf for more than a month. The CMA CGM “Kribi,” operated by the French shipping group CMA CGM, entered the Persian Gulf on February 26 after sailing in from West Africa.

Since the Iran war broke out at the end of February, more than 1,000 vessels have been waiting to cross the strait, and the “Kribi” is one of them.

Dozens of ships have been granted permission by the authorities in Tehran to pass through the strait via a route close to Kharg Island. The island is controlled by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The “Kribi” is one of a few container ships owned by Western companies that have been approved to transit. Over the past three weeks, some Greek and Russian vessels have also taken the route via Larak Island.
