Iran accuses Israel of carrying out an "unprecedented" war crime by attacking a university

Local time on April 6, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Iraavani, sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN Security Council to lodge a serious protest over the military attack on Sharif University of Technology that took place in the early hours of that day. In the letter, he accused the United States and Israel of attacking Iran’s educational institutions, calling it an “unprecedented act of barbarity.” In his letter, Iraavani listed in detail the facilities that were damaged: the Civil Engineering College, the Department of Science and Philosophy, the Nano and Environmental Research Institute, the Integrated Research Building, the Electrical Engineering College, and other facilities were all severely damaged. He pointed out that this attack was not an isolated incident, but a continuation of the April 3 attack on Tehran Shahid Beheshti University, during which facilities including the Laser and Plasma Research Institute were severely damaged. Iraavani emphasized that deliberately attacking research institutions and universities clearly violates international humanitarian law and constitutes a war crime. He said that this act of barbarity, unprecedented in history, is part of a broad and systematic policy publicly acknowledged by the U.S. president and the Israeli prime minister, and it seriously threatens international peace and security.
