Honduras: A bus collides with a cyanide transport trailer, at least 10 people dead

On the evening of April 5, local time, a serious traffic accident occurred on the CA-4 highway in the municipality of Santa Bárbara, Honduras, in the city of Quimisitan. A bus traveling back from Guatemala collided with a trailer carrying solid, granular cyanide. The accident initially left at least 8 people dead; by the morning of April 6, the death toll had risen to at least 10, with many others injured. At present, Honduras’s emergency response department has issued a red alert, set up a restricted area within a radius of about 800 meters around the accident site, and activated alternate routes, while continuing cleanup and risk mitigation operations.
