G7 and EU foreign ministers call for reducing the impact and spillover economic shocks in the Middle East conflict region
The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven member countries and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy issued a joint statement on the Iran situation on the 27th, calling for efforts to reduce the regional spillover effects of the current Middle East conflict and the accompanying economic shocks. The signatories emphasized that the impact of the conflict on regional partners, civilians, and critical infrastructure should be reduced, and that humanitarian assistance should be coordinated. They also called for the immediate cessation of attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. The signatories believe that establishing diversified partnerships, strengthening coordination, and supporting relevant initiatives would help alleviate the economic shocks resulting from the conflict’s spillover. The signatories also called for the permanent restoration of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The G7 foreign ministers’ meeting was held in France from the 26th to the 27th to discuss issues including the Iran situation, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and global governance. (Xinhua)
