Abstract generation in progress

Just scrolled through Pakistan’s currency journey over the past 77 years and wow, the depreciation story is wild 👀

Back in 1947 when Pakistan was born, the dollar rate in 1947 sat at 3.31 PKR. Pretty stable for nearly a decade actually. Then things started shifting around the mid-50s, jumped to 3.91, then 4.76.

But here’s where it gets interesting - from the late 70s through the 80s, the rate stayed around 9.99-20 PKR for years. Almost felt like a pause in the devaluation story. Then the 90s hit and it accelerated hard. By 1999, we’re already at 51.90.

The real acceleration came after 2008. You can see it jumping from 81 to 84 to 85+ within just a few years. 2018 was brutal - 139 PKR. Then 2022-2023 got absolutely crazy with the rate hitting 240-286 range.

Now in 2024, sitting around 277 PKR per dollar. That’s an 83x depreciation from independence. Currency devaluation hits different when you see the full timeline like this 📉
