【AI+Anthropic】Anthropic "Bans" Lobster: Additional charges apply for using third-party tools like OpenClaw

Abstract generation in progress

Anthropic, an AI startup, is adjusting Claude’s usage policies. Starting at 3:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on April 4, Claude subscription plans will no longer include usage allotments for OpenClaw (colloquially known as the “lobster”) and other third-party tools. If subscribers want to continue using Claude through OpenClaw, they must switch to a “pay-as-you-go” plan, and the costs will be calculated separately from Claude subscription fees.

Anthropic Claude Code executive Boris Cherny explained that subscription users can still log in to use these tools through Claude, but they will need an additional usage bundle, or they can use a Claude API key.

“We’ve been working hard to meet Claude’s ever-increasing demand, but our subscription plans are not designed for how these third-party tools are used. Therefore, we need to carefully manage capacity resources and prioritize serving customers who use our products and API.”
