People’s Finance News, April 6—The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said in a statement on May 5 that it is concerned about military actions launched near its premises by armed personnel of Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Israel Defense Forces, warning that such actions could prompt a response from UNIFIL. The statement said that if armed personnel appear near areas where peacekeeping personnel live and work, these locations could become targets of attacks. UNIFIL reminded all parties of their obligation to ensure the safety of UN personnel and to respect at all times the principle that United Nations facilities are inviolable. The statement urged the relevant parties to lay down their weapons, take concrete steps to achieve a ceasefire, and emphasized that military means cannot resolve the conflict; continued confrontation would only cause more casualties. In recent days, UNIFIL’s security has been affected multiple times by Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. Two attack incidents have already resulted in the deaths of three peacekeeping personnel and injuries to others. (Xinhua)
