White House forms technocratic committee to oversee Gaza transition
(MENAFN) US officials announced on Friday the formation of a new “technocratic” committee tasked with managing the transition of authority in the Gaza Strip, a move presented as part of President Donald Trump’s 20-point initiative aimed at ending Israel’s genocidal war on the territory, according to official statements.
The newly established National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) will be headed by Dr. Ali Sha’ath, a former deputy minister within the Palestinian Authority. As outlined in the announcement, Sha’ath was described as “a widely respected technocratic leader who will oversee the restoration of public services, rebuild civil institutions, and stabilize daily life in Gaza, while laying the foundation for long-term governance.”
According to statements, a Gaza Executive Board has also been formed to assist with governance and the provision of services. The board includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British prime minister Tony Blair, United Arab Emirates Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al-Hashimy, veteran Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi, and Egypt’s intelligence chief Hassan Rashad, among others.
In addition, a founding Executive Board has been designated to steer the Board of Peace, which is to be chaired by Trump. Its members include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Witkoff, Kushner, Blair, billionaire Marc Rowan, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, and US political adviser Robert Gabriel.
The announcement follows remarks made earlier this week indicating that the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan has begun. According to officials, this next stage will prioritize demilitarization, the establishment of technocratic governance, and large-scale reconstruction.
The ceasefire, which came into force in October, initially brought an end to active hostilities, enabled a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces, facilitated exchanges between Israeli captives and hundreds of Palestinians held in Israel, and allowed limited humanitarian aid into Gaza, despite provisions calling for full access.
