US media: Trump says he is "deeply negotiating" with Iran and was once close to holding direct talks

Odaily Planet Daily News. According to a report by the Axios website, U.S. President Trump, in a telephone interview, said that the United States is holding “in-depth negotiations” with Iran and that an agreement may be reached before Tuesday’s deadline. “There’s a very good chance of reaching an agreement, but if they don’t, I will destroy everything there,” he said. When asked whether he was concerned about harming innocent civilians, Trump said he believes Iranian people who oppose their government would support such strikes in order to weaken the regime. In a phone interview lasting about 8 minutes, Trump said his special envoys, Wittekoff and Kushner, are conducting intensive negotiations with Iran. Two sources involved in the talks said that communication takes place not only through intermediaries such as Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, but also through text messages between Trump’s advisers and Iran’s foreign minister, Aragchi. “The negotiations are going smoothly, but dealing with Iranians is always impossible to get to the end,” Trump said. He also said that a few days ago the two sides were once close to reaching an agreement to hold direct talks. “But they said, meet again in five days. I asked, why five days? I think they aren’t serious enough. So I attacked the bridge,” Trump said. (Jin Ten)
