Iran conflict triggers energy tensions; India plans to shift to importing natural gas from Russia
On Friday, Russia’s first deputy prime minister, Denis Manturov, said that Russia is fully capable of increasing its energy supply to India as energy-supply disruptions are triggered by the conflict in Iran.
Manturov made the above remarks at the end of his two-day visit to India. He held talks in New Delhi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar, and other Indian ministers to discuss trade, energy, and industrial cooperation.
According to reports, New Delhi is in talks with Moscow to restart the first direct import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022; at the same time, Indian refining companies have resumed large-scale purchases of Russian crude oil, with April order volumes reaching 60 million barrels.
Manturov said that Russian companies have the ability to increase their supplies of oil and liquefied natural gas to India.
