Mars Finance News: On April 5, according to a report on the website of NBC News on April 3, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf appears to have vowed to disrupt commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the crucial waterway in the Red Sea leading to the Mandeb Strait.

The report says that Qalibaf posted on the social platform X, writing: “How much of the world’s share of oil, liquefied natural gas, wheat, rice, and fertilizer shipments must pass through the Mandeb Strait?”

He then added: “Which countries and companies’ goods account for the highest proportion of cargo transported through the strait?”

In recent years, ships passing through the region have repeatedly been attacked by the Yemeni Houthi armed group, which is allied with Iran’s regime. The threat to the Mandeb Strait was issued at a time when Iran had already, to a large extent, cut off shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has thrown the global economy into chaos.
