In the first two months of this year, Shanghai's science and technology innovation sector achieved steady growth.

On March 30, a reporter learned from the Shanghai Municipal Taxation Bureau of the State Taxation Administration that, in January and February 2026, Shanghai’s science and technology innovation sector saw steady growth. Data from value-added tax invoices shows that in January and February, sales revenue of Shanghai’s high-tech industries increased 17.0% year over year. Among them, high-tech services increased 23.0% year over year, and the manufacturing of equipment for aerospace vehicles increased 21.6% year over year. The VAT invoice data also shows that in January and February, sales revenue of Shanghai’s research and technology services increased 28.9% year over year, while sales revenue of knowledge-property (patent) intensive industries increased 6.0% year over year. The digital economy sector also highlights notable strengths. As a leading hub at the forefront of national digital economy development, the VAT invoice data shows that in January and February, sales revenue of Shanghai’s core digital economy industries increased 9.3% year over year, including digital technology application industries increasing 17.6% year over year. A relevant person in charge of the Shanghai Municipal Taxation Bureau said that Shanghai’s tax authorities will continue to optimize service measures, encourage more innovative enterprises to stay within the compliance baseline and deepen their efforts in technological innovation, and help Shanghai’s science and technology innovation industries achieve sustained steady development.
