Japan promotes the establishment of a "National Intelligence Agency" to strengthen intelligence gathering and analysis efforts.

The Japanese government is strengthening the development of the country’s national intelligence system and is establishing a unified national intelligence command structure. According to a previous report by CCTV International News, Japan’s National Intelligence Authority may begin operating as early as 2026. Observers are concerned that Japan’s increasing intensity and confrontational nature in overseas intelligence activities will seriously affect the regional security situation. Under the latest plan, the existing Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office will be upgraded to the “National Intelligence Authority,” and will serve as the central intelligence hub to coordinate the intelligence collection, analysis, and sharing work of various government departments. The related reforms are expected to be launched as early as this July. (The Paper)
