The U.S. Senate Banking Committee is scheduled to review the nomination of Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve Chair on April 16.
ChainCatcher reports, according to Jint10, that a person familiar with the matter told CNBC that the U.S. Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing on April 16 to review Kevin Warsh’s nomination to serve as the Chair of the Federal Reserve.
A separate criminal investigation involving the Federal Reserve is still ongoing, and it is examining whether the current chair, Powell, made false statements to Congress regarding the expensive renovation of the Federal Reserve office building. Meanwhile, Warsh’s nomination process is still moving forward, which could put two parallel tracks pushed by the Trump administration at odds with each other.
Banking Committee member Thom Tillis has already said he will not vote to confirm Warsh before the investigation is completed. This means Trump cannot advance two processes at the same time, but by continuing to push forward with the hearing, Trump is obviously still trying to achieve that goal. The Senate Banking Committee has not yet added the hearing to its public schedule.
