By the end of 2025, the total number of civilian vehicles nationwide will exceed 360 million.

On February 28, the National Bureau of Statistics released the 2025 Statistical Bulletin on National Economic and Social Development. The bulletin shows that at the end of 2025, the total number of civilian automobiles nationwide was 366 million vehicles (including 6.81M three-wheeled vehicles and low-speed trucks), up by 13.43 million from the end of the previous year. Of that, the number of privately owned automobiles was 323 million vehicles, up by 13.48 million. By vehicle type, among civilian automobiles, the number of civilian passenger cars was 198 million vehicles, up by 4.29 million; of those, the number of privately owned passenger cars was 187 million vehicles, up by 4.87 million. In 2025, the production of new energy vehicles was 16.52M units, up 25.1% year over year; at year-end, the number of new energy vehicles in use was 43.97 million units, an increase of 12.57 million from the end of the previous year.
