Honda suddenly faces a major setback: loses 100 billion yuan due to withdrawal of electrification strategy

On March 12, Honda Motor Co. said that for fiscal year 2025 (2025.4–2026.3), it expects an operating loss of 270 billion to 570 billion yen, after previously projecting income of 550 billion yen; it expects a net loss of 420 billion to 690 billion yen (about RMB 11.6 billion to RMB 24.7 billion), after previously projecting income of 300 billion yen. The company said the same day that it has canceled some U.S.-made electric vehicle research and development and launch plans. The company expects that the total costs and losses arising from a reassessment of its electrification strategy could be as high as 2.5 trillion yen (about RMB 108.2 billion). It is understood that this is Honda’s first annual loss since its listing. (First Finance)
