F2Pool Co-founder Wang Chun: Bitcoin protocol upgrades should not involve forced approaches like "bundled legislation" pushed through against consensus

Deep Tide TechFlow message: On April 04, Wang Chun, a co-founder at F2Pool, posted on the X platform stating that Bitcoin protocol upgrades should not adopt approaches like U.S. politicians using “omnibus bills” to force initiatives through. This is also an important reason he opposes BIP-110 and BIP-54. Multiple issues being discussed lack real urgency—for example, the “Timewarp attack” has existed for a long time, but it does not provide any substantial benefit to miners’ profits. Block validation efficiency has already been significantly improved by libsecp256k1 and hardware upgrades, so there is no need to adjust the protocol layer. Meanwhile, “forging already-confirmed transactions” fundamentally relies on cracking a double SHA256 collision; if it were to be possible, it would mean that Bitcoin Core security has been compromised. Wang Chun added that none of the above issues is sufficient to drive protocol changes. At present, only the “duplicate transactions” issue has some repair value, and it may be one of the few changes worth implementing.
