The Iranian Foreign Ministry says non-hostile country ships can pass through the Strait of Hormuz after coordination.

A document provided by the International Maritime Organization, based in London, the United Kingdom, to reporters on the 24th showed that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement it forwarded to all IMO member states, said that ships of non-belligerent countries, if they have not participated in or supported acts of aggression against Iran, and strictly comply with the published safety and security regulations, may, after coordination with the competent Iranian authorities, enjoy the right to safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement emphasized that ships, equipment, and all types of assets belonging to parties involved in U.S., Israeli, and other acts of aggression are not entitled to innocent passage or the right of passage for non-belligerent countries. Under the legal framework related to armed conflicts, such assets will be handled in accordance with decisions made by the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the measures taken.

The statement said that any arrangements, initiatives, or mechanisms involving maritime navigation safety and security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman must fully respect the rights and legitimate interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, carry out comprehensive coordination with the competent Iranian authorities, and take full account of the practical circumstances arising from this aggression and the current conflict. The comprehensive restoration of security in the Strait of Hormuz and its sustainable achievement depend on the cessation of military aggression and threats, the ending of destabilizing actions by the United States and Israel, and full respect for Iran’s legitimate interests.

Iran said that the United States and Israel openly violate the UN Charter and international law by launching military strikes against Iran, creating a dangerous and destabilizing situation for the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, and having an adverse impact on the safety and security of maritime navigation. The Islamic Republic of Iran, in exercising its inherent right of self-defense, besides striking U.S. military bases and facilities in the region, also took necessary and proportionate measures to prevent the aggressors and their supporters from using the Strait of Hormuz to carry out hostile actions against Iran.
