Energy supply tightening, South Korea encourages off-peak use of public transportation
The South Korean presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said on the 3rd that, in order to address tightening energy supply caused by instability in the Middle East situation, the government plans to encourage people to actively use public transportation during off-peak hours by offering rewards. Yonhap News Agency, citing remarks made by Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Jeon Eun-soo during a news briefing on the 3rd, reported that the South Korean government held an emergency response meeting on the 2nd to discuss specific measures to spread public transportation demand across peak and off-peak hours. South Korea’s public sector will first introduce a flexible commuting time system, and will subsequently study the feasibility of expanding the policy to the private sector. (Xinhua)
