After being "banned" by Trump, Anthropic and the Pentagon have resumed negotiations.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is making a final push to resolve contract issues between the company and the U.S. Department of Defense. Negotiations between the two sides abruptly collapsed last week, putting the AI company at risk of being removed from the U.S. military supply chain. As reported by the British Financial Times on Thursday, Amodei is currently in talks with Emil Michael, the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, seeking a compromise on the contract terms for the Pentagon’s use of Anthropic’s AI models. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth threatened last Friday to designate Anthropic as a supply-chain risk company, but has not yet acted formally—this renewed round of talks is intended to avoid that risk.
