So there's this interesting drama brewing in the AI space that caught my attention. Elon Musk has been weighing in on comparisons between Anthropic and the whole FTX collapse situation, and honestly, the parallels people are drawing are pretty wild.
Basically, a tech commentator named Lukas laid out a detailed analysis about why Anthropic's whole vibe feels off to him, and Musk actually agreed with the assessment. The core criticism? Both companies are built on effective altruism principles and rely heavily on this 'we're the responsible ones' messaging combined with wholesome branding around genius founders. It's giving calculated corporate image rather than authentic mission.
Here's where it gets darker though. SBF actually invested $500 million into Anthropic back in 2022. Turns out that money came from stolen FTX customer funds. So there's this uncomfortable connection between the two companies that makes the whole thing feel even more suspicious in retrospect.
Musk pointed out that both organizations have this similar energy of appearing benevolent while operating with what feels like hidden motives underneath. The comparison hit hard enough that it's now circulating through tech and crypto communities.
Of course, context matters here. Musk runs xAI, which competes directly with Anthropic in the AI race, so he's clearly got skin in the game. His criticism isn't coming from a neutral place. That said, the structural similarities between how these companies present themselves versus what actually happened is worth examining.
Interestingly, Katy Perry recently posted about buying a Claude Pro subscription, which shows that despite the drama, Anthropic's products are still getting mainstream adoption. The business keeps moving forward even as questions about the company's culture and funding history swirl around it.
