Driven by AI computing power, the semiconductor industry is ushering in a historic moment. The Semiconductor Equipment ETF Guotai (159516) rose by 1% during the trading session, with a net inflow of over 360 million yuan on the previous trading day.
AI-driven compute power is ushering in a historic moment for the semiconductor industry. On April 3, the Guotai CSI Semiconductor Equipment ETF (159516) rose 1% intraday; on the previous trading day, net inflows exceeded 360 million yuan.
Ping An Securities noted that SEMICON China 2026 International Semiconductor Exhibition is being held in Shanghai, covering a complete ecosystem spanning the entire semiconductor industrial chain. Driven by AI compute power and the global digital economy, the global semiconductor industry has entered a historic moment. The semiconductor era worth trillions of US dollars—originally expected to arrive only in 2030—is expected to be brought forward to the end of 2026. At present, overseas CSPs are continuously stepping up investment in AI infrastructure, which is supporting a sustained uptrend in the storage industry. Storage products are seeing a trend of both volume and price rising together. Given the current sustained high level of AI, we believe the intensity and duration of this storage cycle are expected to exceed the previous one.
In addition, since the first quarter, the global semiconductor industry has witnessed a wave of price increases. This round of wafer foundry price increases has been driven by rising wafer foundry raw material prices, and AI’s “siphoning effect” being transmitted, which has led to a structural squeeze in HV process production capacity; moreover, demand for current HV capacity remains at a relatively high level, among other overlapping factors. In the electronics sub-sectors, China’s smart eyewear market has been particularly prominent. In 2025, shipment volume grew 87.1% year over year. Lightweighting and AI connectivity have become standard features, which has built momentum for the industry to move from early adoption to broader adoption.
The Guotai CSI Semiconductor Equipment ETF (159516) tracks the Semiconductor Materials and Equipment Index (931743). This index focuses on the materials and equipment segments in the semiconductor industrial chain. It selects securities of listed companies engaged in related businesses such as semiconductor materials production, processing, and semiconductor equipment manufacturing as index constituents, in order to reflect the overall performance of securities of listed companies in the upstream segment of the semiconductor industry.
