Pakistan and Afghanistan peace talks. Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs: actively and steadily implementing and promoting progress.

Pakistan and the Taliban government in Afghanistan have confirmed that representatives from both countries are holding talks in Urumqi, Xinjiang.

At a press conference, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning was asked whether China would provide any assurances to ensure that the two sides would not see a conflict erupt over the Taliban issue. She said that both Pakistan and Afghanistan attach importance to and welcome China’s mediation, and are willing to sit down again to discuss; this is a good thing. The process of the talks is being implemented smoothly and advanced. The three parties have reached consensus and made arrangements on specific operating modalities, including news reporting. If there is any further update, it will be released in a timely manner.
