IT之家 March 18 report: Sony announced that starting today it will roll out an update for its PlayStation Portal streaming handheld, mainly adding an 1080p high-quality mode for games, improving trophy animations, and also adjusting device usability.

According to Sony, the 1080p high-quality mode (High Quality Mode) introduced with this update can be used in both Remote Play and Cloud Streaming environments. Compared with the default 1080p standard mode (Standard Mode), it delivers a higher bitrate, resulting in a clearer picture. However, players’ own PS5 needs to be connected to a network / router with good performance.

In addition, Sony has optimized the interface of the PlayStation Portal, making the in-game trophy notification screen more intuitive. When unlocking, the trophy name and image will be shown by default. The Platinum Trophy will also come with a dedicated animation. At the same time, Sony has adjusted the launch screens for some games, enabling players to choose to start specific game add-on content on their own.

In its press release, Sony also disclosed that from last November to this January, the month-over-month active user count for users playing cloud-streamed games grew by 162% year over year. Meanwhile, more than 50% of PlayStation Portal users are themselves subscribers of PlayStation Plus Premium, which also reflects that Sony’s PlayStation cloud gaming business has strong long-term sustainability.
