Bangladesh confirms it has applied to the U.S. for a temporary waiver to purchase Russian oil: Bangladesh should receive the same treatment as India

Bangladesh’s Minister of Finance and Planning Amir Hossru Mahamood Choudhury confirmed that this request was made during talks with U.S. officials, and that the meeting also covered broader issues such as energy cooperation, investment, and trade. “India has already obtained a temporary exemption to buy Russian oil. We have made it clear that if India can get such an opportunity, Bangladesh should also be entitled to it.” Choudhury said to the U.S. ambassador in Bangladesh after the meeting. “Our economy needs strong support. They (the U.S.) said they would forward the request to Washington. Let’s wait and see.” (Global Times)
