Guys, I received a red light ticket last week and started researching it better. I found out that it’s really one of the worst infractions to get. The fine is R$ 293.47, but the worst part is that you lose 7 points on your driver’s license (CNH) all at once. How many points for a red light again? 7 points, that’s quite a lot.

The Traffic Code classifies it as a very serious violation, so it’s no joke. If you accumulate too many points, it becomes difficult to keep your driving privileges. There are some exceptions, like turning right where there’s a sign indicating, or when passing an ambulance with siren on, but other than that, stopping is mandatory.

What surprised me was discovering that these (radar cameras)—those “pigeons”—capture an image as soon as you pass the line after the light turns red. There’s a tiny delay between the yellow and red, but it’s minimal. Many people think they can pass, but the sensor is already triggered.

For those with pending tickets, it’s worth checking the Detran system. Paying quickly can get you a discount. But honestly, the best thing is to slow down when you see the yellow light. How many points does a red light cost? More than it’s worth risking. Has anyone else received one of these?
