IT之家 March 12 news: Uber and Amazon’s Zoox announced a partnership for autonomous ride-hailing services. Starting this summer, Uber users in Las Vegas, USA, will “in eligible trips” have the opportunity to be assigned to Zoox self-driving taxis. Next year, users in Los Angeles will also be able to enjoy the corresponding service. This is Zoox’s first partnership with a third party.

Uber investor response to this news was welcome, driving the company’s stock price to rise by as much as 4.5% after the New York open. Meanwhile, Amazon’s stock price fell by less than 1%. Tesla, which provides small-scale autonomous taxi services, saw its shares drop by as much as a result of this news in pre-market trading, before rebounding during regular trading hours.

Public information shows that Zoox was founded in 2014 and was acquired by Amazon in 2020. The company is currently testing its own autonomous taxi ride-hailing service with passengers in Las Vegas and San Francisco, allowing riders to ride for free. At the same time, the company is also conducting a series of road tests in Seattle, Miami, Atlantic City, Washington, Austin, Dallas, and Phoenix.
