Xia Baolong meets with Chen Guoji in Beijing to guide the planning of Beijing University Town

Chan Kwok-ki reported on his visits to Ningbo and Xiong'an over the past three days, emphasizing the promotion of university city development to help Hong Kong integrate into the country's overall development. Carrie Lam and other officials participated in the meetings, and Chan Kwok-ki's team returned to Hong Kong today.

The delegation from the “University Town Planning and Construction Division” under the “North Metropolis Development Committee” led by Chief Executive Officer of the Administration Chen Kwok-kei continued its visit to Beijing today (the 2nd) as part of its schedule. Xia Baolong, Director of the Central Office for Hong Kong and Macao Affairs and also Director of the State Council’s Office for Hong Kong and Macao Affairs, met with Chen Kwok-kei and the delegation this morning.

Chen Kwok-kei thanked Xia Baolong for his concern and guidance for the HKSAR government’s work on planning and development for the Northern Metropolis University Town, and reported that over the past 3 days the delegation of the planning and construction division visited places such as the Ningbo higher-education park and the Xiong’an New Area in Hebei. Through on-site inspections of higher-education development in different locations, and exchanges with experts and scholars about their successful experience and development strategies, it provided practical inspiration for the top-level design of the Northern Metropolis University Town. It will promote the deep integration of Hong Kong’s advantageous academic fields with industries, while also achieving industrial development by advancing education.

Chen Kwok-kei said that the planning and construction division will continue to drive the development of the Northern Metropolis University Town to improve quality, accelerate progress, and enhance efficiency. It will actively align with the national “14th Five-Year Plan” outline, contributing Hong Kong’s strength to the building of a strong country in education and helping Hong Kong better integrate into and serve the overall national development.

Xu Qifang, Vice Director responsible for day-to-day work at the Central Office for Hong Kong and Macao Affairs and the State Council’s Office for Hong Kong and Macao Affairs, attended the meeting. The Director of Education of the HKSAR, Dr. Sunny Tsai, also made a report. Su Haisi, Director of the North Metropolis Coordination Office, as well as representatives from eight universities funded by the University Grants Committee, attended the meeting together.

After completing the Beijing visit, Chen Kwok-kei and members of the delegation returned to Hong Kong this afternoon. Dr. Sunny Tsai continued her visit to Beijing this afternoon and will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (the 3rd).
