I was looking at the latest rankings for buy-now-pay-later apps, and there are quite a few options. The top ones seem to be those that are fee-free and can be used instantly. It's understandable that Paidy is ranked first since bank account transfers don't incur fees, and installment plans are free up to 12 payments. Apple products can also be split into 36 installments for free.
The second-place Atokara is similar, but its strength is that members can split payments into up to 36 installments. The downside is that it doesn't have a notification feature, so you need to check manually. Pay ID in third place is exclusive to BASE, so if you use BASE, this might be the best choice.
An interesting one is FamilyPay. Not only can you use it at FamilyMart, but also at restaurants like Sushiro and Matsuya, and even for utility bills. It offers a 1.00% point cashback, which feels like a good deal. NP Postpay can be used at about 200,000 stores, which is a big advantage, but it's unfortunate that it doesn't support installment payments.
Ultimately, if you prioritize low fees, you should choose one that allows bank account transfers. If installment payments are more important, then Paidy or atone+ are the way to go. For small frequent purchases, it might be better to avoid Yahoo Slow Payment, as the fixed fee of 254 yen can be quite costly on a 3,000 yen purchase.
