Reports indicate that the Apple MacBook Neo laptop comes with a foolproof prompt: plugging the external monitor into the wrong USB-C port will trigger an alert.

IT之家 reports that on March 5, a tech media outlet, Daring Fireball, published a blog post yesterday (March 4), saying that the Apple MacBook Neo has specifically added an intelligent warning feature in the macOS system to address issues where the wrong USB-C port is inserted by mistake. It will proactively pop up a prompt to remind users to switch when they plug a monitor into the wrong port.

Citing the blog post, IT之家 explains that the Apple MacBook Neo is equipped with two USB-C ports: the USB-C port on the left in the image below supports up to 10 Gb/s USB 3 transfer speeds, while the port on the right, near the trackpad, is strictly limited to the USB 2 speed of 480 Mb/s.

The physical differences in the port specifications directly affect the user experience when using external display devices. Apple has officially confirmed that the MacBook Neo supports connecting only one external display up to 4K 60Hz via the left port.

Because no specifications are engraved at the ports on the device body, this asymmetrical design can easily cause user confusion in real-world use. However, the media blogger John Gruber revealed that macOS has already added an intelligent anti-mistake mechanism to address this issue. If a user incorrectly plugs the external display into the right-side port, the system will proactively show a warning, prompting the user to unplug it and switch it to the other side port.
