Artificial intelligence technology integration drives innovation; demand for new materials continues to expand. On April 1, the Guotai New Materials ETF (159761) surged more than 2% intraday.

CITIC Securities noted that, from a long-term perspective, as a growth-oriented sector, new materials will continue to develop in the future, driven by the steady expansion of China’s demand for new materials from its manufacturing industry, along with technology-driven integrated innovations such as artificial intelligence. As downstream demand keeps recovering, and supported by domestic substitution, China’s domestic new materials sector may gradually see volume expansion and enter a favorable cycle. Specifically, in the semiconductor materials segment, global semiconductor sales continue to grow year over year: in January 2026, year-over-year growth reached 46.1%, marking the 27th consecutive month of year-over-year growth, and China’s sales grew 47.0% year over year. In the field of superhard materials, the first two months of 2026 saw both export volume and value increase. However, demand for traditional products is under pressure, while functional diamond has shown signs of industrialization in applications such as semiconductors.

The Guotai New Materials ETF (159761) tracks the New Materials Index (H30597). This index selects securities of listed companies from the market whose businesses involve advanced basic materials, key strategic materials, cutting-edge new materials, and other areas, as index constituents, to reflect the overall performance of securities of listed companies related to the new materials industry.
