What a mess it was on the highways on Saturday, brother. They closed Perito Moreno and 25 de Mayo for 7 hours in the morning because they were installing barrier-free tolls. It started at 6 a.m. and was supposed to last until 3 p.m., but they finished earlier than expected.

The thing is, they installed a 50-meter metal structure weighing 25 tons to remove all the booths at the Dellepiane toll. They say that almost no one pays cash anymore, less than 4% of drivers, so it makes sense to eliminate all that infrastructure. They will replace the 26 booths with a gantry that reads TelePASE devices and license plates with laser cameras. At 25 de Mayo, specifically near Culpina, was where most of the chaos happened during the setup.

What's interesting is that they will implement a system called Free Flow, which basically allows cars to pass without stopping. Cameras and electronic sensors will automatically record everything. It’s supposed to start in March, so those crossing the toll to connect to Riccheri Highway and reach Ezeiza will notice the difference. About 90,000 users pass through there daily, so once the toll price adjustment with this new system is in place, there should be less congestion.

That closure caused a total traffic disaster, honestly. They had to divert everything through Paseo del Bajo, and people had to get off at Antarctica Argentina to continue along Madero. Dellepiane is one of the most critical points for entering and leaving the city, so when that’s closed, chaos ensues. But at least they finished two hours earlier than planned.
