(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that American troops are expected to withdraw from Iran within a short timeframe, indicating a potential halt to the ongoing military campaign.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “All I have to do is leave Iran, and we’ll be doing that very soon.” He reiterated the timeline, stating, “We’ll be leaving very soon,” and noting that it could occur in “maybe two weeks, maybe three.”

He also suggested that other nations would need to manage their own energy routes once US forces depart, remarking, “And if France or some other country wants to get oil or gas, they’ll go up through the Strait (of Hormuz).” He added, “They’ll be able to fend for themselves. I think it’ll be very safe, actually, but we have nothing to do with that.”

According to reports, the United States and Israel have conducted sustained airstrikes against Iran since late February, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,340 people, based on figures released by Iranian officials. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel as well as countries such as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states that host US military installations.

Official figures indicate that at least 13 American service members have died since the conflict began. The fighting has also contributed to rising energy costs and disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil transport that handles a substantial share of worldwide shipments.

Trump further asserted that the administration’s primary goal regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions has already been fulfilled. “They will have no nuclear weapon. And that goal has been attained.”
