(MENAFN) Six Palestinians were murdered Sunday in two separate airstrikes carried out by Israel, which targeted two Palestinian police checkpoints west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, as reported by Palestinian sources.

The fatalities in the al-Mawasi area included both police personnel and civilians, with additional individuals sustaining injuries of varying severity, the sources added.

In a statement released Sunday by the official Palestinian news agency, Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh condemned the escalation, stating that the current Israeli actions in Palestinian territories amount to a “war crime.”

Also on Sunday, the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) emphasized in a press release that its focus remains on reinforcing the resilience of the Palestinian people on their land, countering annexation and displacement efforts, and ultimately bringing an end to the Israeli occupation.

Health authorities based in Gaza reported Sunday that since the ceasefire began in October 2025, 702 Palestinians have been murdered and 1,913 have been injured. This brings the total casualties since October 7, 2023, to 72,278 deaths and 172,013 injuries.

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics noted Sunday that the Palestinian economy contracted by 20 percent in 2025 compared with 2023, the year the Gaza conflict erupted. However, the economy experienced a 3-percent growth in the fourth quarter of 2025 relative to the same period in 2024.
