Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially with the December payments coming up. My neighbor was stressed about it last week, so I figured I'd share what I learned.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you basically have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office - can't do it online. You'll need to fill out the Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID, and get a recent bank statement (less than 3 months old) that shows the account is in your name only. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. Takes up to 21 days after you submit, so if you want it sorted for next month, get it done before the 15th.

For the SRD grant though, it's different - that's all online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your banking details from there. Way faster if it works, but honestly, some people have had issues with the online system.

PhoneNumber changes are pretty straightforward for SRD - use the contact portal, enter your new number, they'll send an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call the helpline or visit an office. One thing though - if you're using the cash transfer option, your phone number has to be registered in your name (RICA-compliant) or it won't work.

Main thing is: don't use sketchy websites claiming to do this stuff. Stick to the official SASSA portal or go in person. And if the online thing isn't working, just call 0800 60 10 or visit your local office. Takes longer but it's legit.
