Been digging through which projects might actually deliver this year and wanted to share what caught my attention. Everyone's always asking what's the next crypto to explode, but honestly it's more nuanced than just picking a few coins and hoping.
Started looking at layer 1s and found some interesting plays. Kaspa's been performing – currently sitting around $0.03 after hitting $0.21 earlier, and Marathon Digital jumping into Kaspa mining is a legit signal. The blockDAG tech is different from the usual blockchain approach, processes blocks in parallel instead of linear chains. Meanwhile Sui at $0.90 is still way below its hype cycle peak, and the Move language foundation they share with Aptos could matter if developer adoption picks up.
Filecoin's another one I keep coming back to. Yeah it's been around since 2020, but the decentralized storage angle becomes more relevant as Web3 actually needs infrastructure. Currently $0.84. Solana's obviously established but SOL at $83.85 is nowhere near its $293 ATH from 2021 – that gap suggests room to run if adoption keeps growing. The AI integration they're pushing could differentiate it.
Polygon's the layer 2 play everyone knows about. MATIC $0.18 versus $2.92 ATH tells you something about how beaten down it got. They've got partnerships with actual corporations though, which matters for real adoption not just speculation.
XRP at $1.35 is interesting if you think remittance use cases actually scale. The ISO 20022 compliance gives it real banking infrastructure potential that most crypto doesn't have. Mina Protocol's the weird lightweight blockchain bet – $0.06 now, had that 500% run back in 2021 before the bear market wiped it out.
For the staking angle, Rocket Pool seems positioned well if passive income from ETH keeps attracting capital. RPL at $1.78. Then there's the meme/community coins – Shiba Inu with Shibarium coming and the burning mechanics, Toncoin deeply integrated with Telegram's 950M users, both could see moves if sentiment shifts.
Render Network's the dePIN plus AI angle – $1.78, covers two hyped sectors even if it's more infrastructure than AI directly.
Honestly the next crypto to explode probably depends more on when market sentiment flips than which project is technically superior. All these have something going for them, but timing's everything. Some are established leaders with room to recover, others are newer bets. The next crypto to explode could be any of them or none of them – that's why research matters more than just picking a list.
