Doha, Qatar: The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) announced that the State of Qatar will assume the chairmanship of its Board of Directors for the upcoming three-year term.

The chairmanship will be led by President of the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al Theyab.

The announcement was made during the Authority’s Ordinary General Assembly meeting, held in Doha yesterday.

The meeting reviewed the General Assembly’s agenda, regional developments amid current circumstances, as well as the Authority’s strategic plans.

Participants also discussed the upcoming phase of expansion projects of the GCC electrical interconnection network aimed at enhancing reliability during outages, increasing opportunities for electricity exchange and trade among member states, and exploring potential expansion beyond GCC countries through linkage with neighbouring power grids, thus strengthening Gulf integration in the electricity sector.
