Opinion: Trump aims to influence the situation by exploiting the divide between the Iranian president and the military

Mars Finance News, on April 1, Trump earlier said, “The president of Iran’s new regime has just asked the United States for a ceasefire,” and analysts said that Pezeshkian had already been serving as Iran’s president before the conflict, and that he is still the sitting president. The key point is that it is still unclear whether he actually holds power now, or whether he previously did. The president of Iran is usually a symbolic position, responsible for the government’s civilian affairs; policies need approval from the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Recent developments increasingly suggest that there is a split between the president and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Trump’s strategy appears to be to exploit this split: releasing peace signals to Iranians from the president’s direction while claiming that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an obstacle to dialogue. This could trigger internal turmoil and ultimately could lead to a change of regime, or at least bring about an unstable situation.
