On April 1, according to a report by People’s Daily, with strong support from relevant departments in Cambodia, China’s Ministry of Public Security dispatched a working group and successfully escorted Li Xiong, a core member of Chen Zhi’s criminal syndicate, from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, back to China. After investigation, Li Xiong previously served as chairman of Huiwang Group under the Tai Zi Group and is suspected of multiple crimes, including operating a gambling house, fraud, illegal business operations, and concealing or disguising proceeds from crime. Currently, Li Xiong has been subjected to compulsory measures according to the law, and the related case is under further investigation. A spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Public Security stated that several core members of Chen Zhi’s criminal syndicate have been brought to justice one after another, and public security authorities will continue to intensify efforts to apprehend and bring fugitives to justice. Previously, U.S. federal prosecutors accused Chen Zhi of money laundering and telecom fraud on behalf of the Tai Zi Group, and in October 2025, disclosed that the United States had seized 127,271 bitcoins that he once controlled, which at that time were worth 15 billion US dollars.
