Look, I just saw the results of the 2024 Brazil Grand Prix qualifying, and honestly, it was pretty chaotic. Five red flags, rain everywhere, and Verstappen finished in 17th place due to a engine change penalty. Norris took pole position with his eighth F1 win, which is quite impressive considering how wet everything was at Interlagos.
What surprised me the most was seeing Verstappen so far back despite leading the championship. Turns out he didn't make it to Q3 in Q2 because of the timing of one of the red flags caused by Stroll. Checo Pérez also was eliminated in Q2 and started from 12th, and from what I saw on social media, the guy was pretty upset about how everything was handled.
The qualifying was scheduled for Saturday, but rain and poor visibility forced it to be postponed to Sunday morning. Basically, they spent two hours trying to find a weather window that never arrived. Russell was second, Tsunoda third, and the Brazil Grand Prix looked more like an obstacle course than a speed race with so many accidents during qualifying.
Albon, Colapinto, Sainz, Alonso, and Stroll all crashed into barriers. Alonso lost control of the car at turn 11 during Q3, which was quite spectacular but fortunately without personal injuries. Sainz was also set to start from the pit lane due to additional car changes.
Checo had made a good comeback in Saturday's Sprint race, starting 13th and finishing eighth to earn a point. McLaren took the 1-2 in the sprint, so the weekend looked interesting to see how everything would unfold in the main race on Sunday.
