Ask AI · Do road quality issues reflect gaps in regulatory oversight?

Recently, a netizen from Yiyang, Hunan, posted a video saying that in the Datonghu District there, a newly built road still has not been named. The road surface is uneven—lumpy and distorted—like waves. Some netizens joked, “It doesn’t look like a cement road; it looks like putty molded by hand.”

A reporter from the Huashang Daily Feng News checked the on-site video. The road really does have multiple spots that are sunken and damaged, with sections that are sometimes higher and sometimes lower.

According to an insider, the stretch is near Datonghu Avenue. He reported the road issues to Yiyang Datonghu Investment Development (Group) Co., Ltd. The staff replied that the leaders had already made arrangements to rebuild the road. Because of rainy weather, construction had not started yet; afterward, they would give the public a satisfactory response.

On March 30, a reporter from Huashang Daily Feng News contacted the Datonghu District Transportation Bureau. The staff said that this section is responsible for construction and management by Yiyang Datonghu Investment Development (Group) Co., Ltd., and suggested the reporter inquire with that unit.

According to the phone number provided by the Transportation Bureau, the reporter tried multiple times to contact Yiyang Datonghu Investment Development (Group) Co., Ltd., but the line always kept prompting “the line is busy.”

The insider provided the private number of a staff member of the company. After the reporter got through, the person said the company would carry out rectification on the problematic road section. As for when the road would open for traffic and why quality issues appeared right after it was newly built, the person said she had just come to the unit not long ago and did not know. In the end, she hung up the phone, saying that another call was coming in.
