Just realized a lot of people struggle with updating their SASSA details, especially the SRD grant stuff. Thought I'd share what I figured out because honestly, the process is pretty different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting the SRD R370 grant, changing your banking details is actually way easier than I expected. You can do it all online through the official SASSA SRD portal without going to an office. Just enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your bank account details from there. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify everything, but at least you don't have to queue at SASSA. One thing though - make sure the account is purely in your name. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that.

Now if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), it's different. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person to change your banking details. You'll need your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months or a letter from the bank), and they process it on the spot. Takes up to 21 working days after that, and if you submit after the 15th of the month, you're waiting another cycle for the change to kick in.

Phonephone number changes for SRD are also online - they send you an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call the helpline (0800 60 10 11) or visit an office. Heads up though: there are fake websites out there trying to scam people with grant updates, so always use the official SASSA portal. Don't risk it with sketchy links.

Basically, SRD is electronic-only and faster, permanent grants need you to show up in person. Annoying but at least now you know what to expect.
