WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on social media on March 31 that in the past two nights, Israeli airstrikes on Tehran, the capital of Iran, hit the WHO’s local premises, causing the office windows to shatter.
Tedros said that the WHO’s offices in Tehran have clear identifying signs, and any attack that affects or damages the WHO or the normal operations of other UN agencies is unacceptable and must be firmly avoided.
Tedros said that fortunately, all staff members currently at the WHO’s Tehran office have confirmed that they are safe, and no one was injured.
On March 30 and 31, Israel carried out consecutive airstrikes on Tehran’s infrastructure, which led to massive explosions in multiple locations and caused power outages.
