(MENAFN) In the early hours of Wednesday, the Israeli military launched an aerial assault on the Dahiyeh district, located in the southern outskirts of Beirut, according to eyewitness accounts. Fighter jets carried out the strike, triggering loud blasts that reverberated throughout the Lebanese capital and nearby areas. Plumes of smoke were observed billowing from the location that was hit.

Earlier during the night, Israeli forces had also struck vehicles in the Jnah neighborhood of Dahiyeh, an area widely regarded as a stronghold of Hezbollah. Preliminary reports indicated that at least five individuals lost their lives, while 21 others sustained injuries as a result of that attack.

Dahiyeh is recognized as a significant base of Hezbollah and has frequently been the focus of Israeli military operations. The area has experienced repeated bombardments in recent confrontations.

Since a cross-border assault by Hezbollah on March 2, Israel has intensified its campaign, conducting both air raids and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon. These actions have continued despite a ceasefire that officially came into effect in November 2024.

Hezbollah, for its part, has launched multiple rocket barrages into Israel since early March. The group states that these strikes are retaliation for ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, as well as the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on Feb. 28.

According to Lebanese officials, Israeli operations have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,247 people, with an additional 3,690 individuals reported injured.
