I just realized something interesting — today is Pizza Day in the Bitcoin community, and the story behind it is even crazier than you think.
It all started on May 22, 2010, when a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz in Florida simply wanted to eat pizza. Instead of ordering regular delivery, he went to the Bitcoin forum and said, "Anyone help me order 2 Papa John's pizzas, I’ll pay 10,000 BTC." At that time, 10,000 BTC was worth about $40. And someone accepted.
But the cool part is — that transaction wasn’t a big deal. It was just a simple proof that Bitcoin could be used practically, not just numbers on a screen. That was a turning point that few people recognized back then.
Many years later, looking back, Laszlo’s 10,000 BTC is now worth over $680 million. Those two pizzas are equivalent to a massive asset — the most expensive meal in history. But I don’t think Laszlo feels regret. He created a milestone in Bitcoin history, proving that cryptocurrency isn’t just theory but something you can use every day.
Since then, Pizza Day has become a strange but meaningful holiday in the crypto community. Every year on this day, people eat pizza, share memes, and reflect on the journey from a crazy idea to a market worth trillions of dollars.
It proves one thing: sometimes, decisions that seem meaningless are actually steps that change the world. Pizza Day isn’t just about eating pizza; it’s a symbol of daring to act, trusting new technology, and how a small transaction can leave a mark forever in history.
