"U.S. General License" excludes China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba, and Iran. Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Firmly oppose.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning chaired a regular press conference on April 1.
A reporter asked: According to reports, recently the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a “general license,” authorizing approval to sign investment and operations contracts in Venezuela’s mining sector. The department said this move will help bring the Venezuelan economy back on track and benefit the people of both the U.S. and Venezuela. The “general license” excludes China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba, and Iran. What comments does the Chinese side have on this?
Mao Ning: The Chinese side firmly opposes the U.S. side setting limits on China-Venezuela cooperation by manipulating so-called “general licenses.” The legitimate interests of China in Venezuela must be protected. What the U.S. should do is to immediately lift its illegal unilateral sanctions against Venezuela, rather than by manipulating so-called “general licenses” to whitewash its acts that have harmed the legitimate interests of relevant parties, including Venezuela.
